What is the hiring like at this place / types they operate

I heard it was all R44s?

I spoke to a hi-timer recently in perth and said it was a bit of an ego fest and that most of the employees are trying to shaft each other behind their backs. Should i bother pursuing this company for positons, I currently hold a cpl with around 320hours mustering time and am looking at more full-time work.

Thanks,

Well, 1s mistake is posting your name at end of message! What if you do go for a job there?? ... Screwed! No employer likes criticism, and to ask behind their backs about their religion and ethics... Mmnnn

2nd mistake - you should just ask what sort of mob they are, and how all the staff get along, and watch anonymous answers...

WA Boy. There have been a number of operators that have run along the Great Ocean Road at various times.
There was plenty of competition in the past, but now there is only one company and therefore no competition.

They are a tourism/charter company only and have mostly predetermined flight routes.
They do not hirer aircraft as far as I know.

They have a strict policy of working from the ground up, ie you load first. Then move to flying at a later stage when a 'flying' pilot moves on.

It is a family run business, based on site at their farm. Very tight knit group, but other than the owner/boss, they all want to move on eventually.

Good luck.

320 hrs in mustering, are you not working full time? I would have thought mustering would be a job that you (I) would keep for some time.....build the hours, full on flying, great experience? am i wrong?......good luck......... :cool_dc:

What are the min hours for a job at the apostles? Would my recently minted 75hr CPL (H) be enough or do they only employ high hour guys/girls?

I heard there was another company starting up there soon with an ec120 or ec130?

cheers

I've heard very few good things about this company. Low time pilots with low time management is not a good combination.

Low time pilots need to remember that there is still a lot to learn after flight school and anyone who has worked at a company like this realises this very quickly at their next job.

Having said that, they do as much as 700 hours a year down there and a job is a job.

Basically once you have finnished your paperwork and hours and recieve the shiny licence you now have the "Licence to Learn!"........and trust me it continues every day you fly :D always take on opinions and listen and take advice, you can always sift out the lumps you dont like!.

In answer to WA-Boy's original question, 12AH do have quite a large number of pilots working there at any one time and turnover can vary dramatically. There was a period of about 12 months where very few pilots left and caused a backlog of ground crew, but several guys have left this year so hopefully this will have sorted itself out somewhat. Probably worth getting in touch with them sept-oct time as they staff up for summer. I wouldn't be expecting to fly for at least 6 months, but once you're on the line (like wooley hyena said) expect 400-700 hrs a year. They use R44's mostly but have just taken delivery of an EC130.

CY-Heli. A new operator started up around October last year with an R44 and EC120 flying out of Peterborough airport which is 10km west of the Apostles. There is enough work in the area to support two companies and hopefully it won't be long before this new company is able to put a few new pilots into the system. Good luck to them!

You can't beat a little healthy competition, it keeps the customer service up and a few extra guys employed

WOW! That's a big step up from the R44, good to see scenic flight operators stepping up to modern machines. Can you imagine the fight each morning to see who's in the R44 and who's in the 130! :D

Well I have nothing but good things to say about this company. Please don't get on here and spread hearsay and inuendo (as if that's ever going to cease...). The owner operator is a solid bloke with well maintained machines and a slick operation. Of course there is going to be a high turnover of staff. For a start they hire a lot of pilots and secondly it's not the type of place you stick around for an entire career. You build your hours and move on. If you are the right kind of person you might just get a start with a shiny new license, you could do a hell of a lot worse than cutting your teeth here.

"Are the Apostles naturally formed?"

"No. There are little gnomes that come out at night and carve them by hand."

"Oh, really."

"No. (Self, I said to myself, you've got to get out of here one day...)".

True story...

My other favourite, "How deep is the water?"

So in conclusion; If you are interested in a good first/early job. Give them a ring, send a resume, go visit. Repeat.

"What are are those" asks the tourist, looking at some pylons of an old derelect jetty, that were just breaking the surface in a lazy swell. "Hmmm? oh the're dolphins". "Oh!" she exclaims......"they don't seem to be moving much"....."the're sleeping"....... "Oooooo isn't that so cute"....."Ah....yep" Her husband was nearly wetting himself! It made her day anyhow. :D

Funny how people only remember the bad sh*t!
Barry T gave a lot of young guys their first (and in some cases only chance) at their first job! Many people, right through to people flying for CHC and the likes, owe their opportunities to Barry T's confidence and tutelage from the very beginning!
