As mentioned, I fly for a tuna company and there are only 3 company's that exist in the Asia pacific region. Hanson,Tropic, Tri Marine.
Whom ever is posting this job if it is for real! is not a 500 operator. No body cares about a degree especially in the medical area life's cheap out here,
if you get injured you will be put in the freezer down stairs until the boat has caught it's 1000 tone then defrosted when the vessel gets back into Majaro or
what ever port its off to. And as for extra help apart from flying you do F***k all.

Obviously the junior birdmen and women have their pick of the best jobs and can afford to slag the few employers who will take a chance on a low time pilot. Good luck to all of you who partake in the constant slagging. How many of you are actually flying for a living?!!!

Notam,
sorry to correct you but Tri Marine are a fishing company not a helicopter company. There is a heli company that they use from nz, as there are a couple other small companys with machines out there somewhere, Correct me if I am wrong But did someone state that the job was for a dodgy Tuna boat?????? or you jumping to conculsions?
If you look in the captians room he has some fun medical supplies! and excuse my spelling.
Majuro is spelt like this too.
Leave the guys alone that are posting jobs.

Hello.

From what I am told, the majority of tuna pilots are Filipino. Most of them have a degree. I met one Filipino tuna pilot who was also an airbus captain although was getting paid more flying a 500 of a purse seiner. 80 percent of Filipino people earn less than 2 dollars per day and at least one out of every family is working abroad to support them. Thats stiff competition Aussies. I can see why the Filipino pilot gets employed and they are generaly very humble and loyal people. For what its worth.

Just for the update Tri Marine is a fishing company, though have just purchased a couple of 500's of there own as i was invited by a american captain to jump ship in the near future. As for the smaller company's yes they exist there is a new guy staring up out of Pohnpei trying to compete with a much larger organisation that is already there. good luck to him as this is healthy for the industry. Thanks for picking up on the spelling of Majaro however after a few drinks at midnight it was the last thing on my mind. As for the captains room also know as (Fish Master) Im sure he has all sorts of goodies in there, it must be the reason why mine is always off his head. As for the filipino pilots most of them are ex air force with Huey time, saying that i have never met a bad one they are always smiling and happy to see the light of another day.

Just a quick update, tiwanease ships have Captain/Navigator, and the Fishmaster is a differnt person..GOD!, likewise with the Koreans. South American ships,eg Tri Marine ships the Captian and fishmaster is the same thing.
maybe a little confusion again, hope that helps.
Notam are you in PagoPago?
And I excuse your spelling as i am a retard and hope mine can be excused.

Freewheel, like you other intellegent people have picked up on my username before, and yes it should have a 's', as duscussed in older topics why it is like that. Are you one of those pilots who take the piss out of others to make yourself feel better? bullied at school? or just sick of wacking off over helicopter pictures?
Lets not abuse each other and get back to a proper helicopter forum.

Woah there CL, I think you have mistaken Freewheel's compliment as abuse. This thread has become quite interesting after a shaky start, carry on fishermen...

Unreal you guys.......

A few questions.

1. Has anyone applied ?
2. Have any clarificatinons on the role been solicited ?
3. Has anyone been interviewed for / won the role ?

THAT would be interesting to know - all the rest of the garbage going on here (sadly too common) is NOT.

Anyone with answers to the three questions above - pse respond - otherwise DON'T :x :x

Hi ringstate, yes there has been some clarification, as there are two threads running on this post, see response from original post below;
Thanyou to those who have sent me a cv. I didn't realise that the requirements are funny. A bachelor degree is a minimum education level in many industries. If you are the only person on your ship who can spell your name then I am excited although you would impress me if you could spell and write the crews names in thier native form. Pilots are competing in an international market and humility counts. I will be looking through the cv's this week and will notify the suitable candidate next week.

Best regards,

Bob Helimarine

A good idea needs landing gear as well as wings to get off the ground.

Keen to hear how the applicants get on - the literate ones that is !

Sorry guys, but what planet is bob living on, "a bachelor degree is a minimum education level in many industries". That may be so if your looking for a doctor or lawyer, but helicopter pilot, come on. I wonder how many CHC or Bristows or qantas pilots hold a degree in anything because it's a requirement of the industry. Anyone who is flying helicopters for a living and has a dgree, gave the job that required the degree the bum because it was a crap job. They are now doing something that requires enough nouse to pass exams with multiple guess answers.

A degree as requirement in this industry my hairy, fat pimply and some what skid marked bum.

For what it's worth.

Get this. I have a few friends that are awesome musicians and have played for many years. They took further study and all have degrees. The dexterity involved in playing deathcore metal would blow most people away with years of painfull hands and feet and low pay. I don't get this pilot thing with the degree. Get out and earn a degree if you hate not having one so much.

If they want a degree then in my opinion that's ok. The requirements do seem a bit extreme but that's their decision not ours. It certainly appears to only be a niche, one-off job so I'd hardly be concerned about a growing trend of a degree as a prerequisite. However if I was employed on the basis of having a degree and a pilot's licence then i'd be wanting to be paid on a basis commensurate with that - ie in this case what an experienced doctor/nurse would be earning in addition to that of a pilot's wage.

Similar to working on tuna boats i guess. From what i hear if you're a mechanic and a pilot then you're getting paid double. In my mind the same applies here. You can ask for all you want, you just better be prepared to pay to get it.

The old idiom of "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys" certainly rings a bell. Best of luck to all those that apply...
