Thanks for the update Hardman.
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

Well I have nothing but good things to say about this company. Please don't get on here and spread hearsay and inuendo (as if that's ever going to cease...). The owner operator is a solid bloke with well maintained machines and a slick operation. Of course there is going to be a high turnover of staff. For a start they hire a lot of pilots and secondly it's not the type of place you stick around for an entire career. You build your hours and move on. If you are the right kind of person you might just get a start with a shiny new license, you could do a hell of a lot worse than cutting your teeth here.

"Are the Apostles naturally formed?"

"No. There are little gnomes that come out at night and carve them by hand."

"Oh, really."

"No. (Self, I said to myself, you've got to get out of here one day...)".

True story...

My other favourite, "How deep is the water?"

So in conclusion; If you are interested in a good first/early job. Give them a ring, send a resume, go visit. Repeat.

True story...

"What are are those" asks the tourist, looking at some pylons of an old derelect jetty, that were just breaking the surface in a lazy swell. "Hmmm? oh the're dolphins". "Oh!" she exclaims......"they don't seem to be moving much"....."the're sleeping"....... "Oooooo isn't that so cute"....."Ah....yep" Her husband was nearly wetting himself! It made her day anyhow. :D
"It's wabbit seathon! It' duck seathon! I dare you to shoot me now!"

Funny how people only remember the bad sh*t!
Barry T gave a lot of young guys their first (and in some cases only chance) at their first job! Many people, right through to people flying for CHC and the likes, owe their opportunities to Barry T's confidence and tutelage from the very beginning!

I would give my left nut to fly for them, would having an FAA license converted to CASA be a CV disaster? or could a good attitude and hard work bypass the fact that I didn't train in the country?

Helothere, sounds like you have worked for this operator? I am thinking of heading down that way to say hello. Can you give me a bit of info on the company? Do they pay award? Paid leave? Uniform paid for? I heard word around the traps that conditions weren't that good there and you even had to pay for check flights and bfr's? Would love to hear from someone who has worked there under the current operator. And on the subject of Barry T, Harold, very well said. I don't understand how someone could have such a strong opinion about someone based on second hand information.

I haven't worked for the owner/operator but I know him. Those are interesting questions sp, might I suggest you approach a first flying job with little expectation? If you can be paid to fly safe, well maintained machines in a good environment then you are on a winner. I certainly wouldn't be fronting up to a potential employer and asking for some free clothes and a holiday on him!

Best thing to do is make contact, send deatails and go visit.

Thanks for the tip Helothere. I was just wondering about the entitlements because i read a post awhile back about another VIC operator being sued because he didn't pay leave entitlements and allowances. I heard the operator being sued was very good to his pilots and paid for uniforms and ec120 and as350 endos. Just wondering if there were some ulterior motives behind the pilots actions and if the current operator could one day find himself in the same position? I know if I got a squirrel and 120 endo payed for in my first job, I wouldn't be to fussed about holiday pay and allowances. I would be very grateful and just move on.

Spcrewie, for the record, the operator who got sued for underpaying his pilots was NOT Barry T. It was the other operator originally based closer to Port Campbell!

mate, im not gonna say to much apart from this.

see it from both sides, please.

Im good mates with one of the guys that took this course of action. so let me say that it was done with NO malice. they just realised that they were legally entitled to certain things. they were promised these when leaving and it never came to pass. This is Despite the fact that the owner sold the business for a substantial profit ! and i mean SUBSTANTIAL!

everyone has heard a story or two about these guys, personally , i met Ian on numerous occasions back in 06, he has always been a nice bloke, and ive never worked down at the aposltles for any company.

and as for not fussed about holiday pay and allowances. did it ever occur to you that these guys might have had mortgages to service, or children to support while chasing the dream. they were out of a job in next to no time without any warning. some were lucky to find other work quickly, others were not.

You all get so worked up!!! Who cares if you don't like someone's opinion. It's the internet!!!!

Droppy me guts - Post some pics of Iraq and dodging that lead... I love that sh*t, bring it on, get's the adrenaline going!! (It will give me flash backs of Nam... or maybe I am just confusing them with all the movies I have watched while wearing my flight suit and helmet in front of the big screen!!!) but seriously, post some up...

12 Apostles is a great place to work, easy money for cutting some laps around. As long as you can turn left and talk some history to the tourist and make em smile you'll kill it. It's good fun, easy, enjoyable, relaxing and one of the better entry level jobs in the country.
It's what you make it and how you approach it.... have fun with it and make stuff up to the tourists that annoy you because they ask
stupid questions, I do believe that the legacy of "CAVE 23" still lives on down there ?? Just don't be a stick pig when you go down there!! We all end up with thousands of hours one day... and having that extra .2 isn't going to make a difference, sorry I stand corrected, it's the difference between you looking like a good bloke/Gal or a d*ckhead!!
Sit on this and rotate......

Yeah Droptmaguts some of your piccies would be interesting. What sort of machines do you fly over there and what sort of pilot experience did you need to get a job flying in that sort of environment?

Thanks for any info

So, a few threads recently about first timer jobs...
12 Apostles
The Rock

What other companies take on low time pilots?
