Re: Who is looking at this site vote here
Just joined the site, and completed my TIF. I am hoping to continue working a 14/7 mining roster and complete my theory within a year. The plan is to get qualified, and take the paycut to do something I have always wanted.

Who is looking at this site vote here
I am interested who is looking at this site. We hear so much about how many 'new' pilots are looking for work but it would be good to know at what stage of the industry you are at.
What poll options do you want?

No Note a typo. Private company owning there own aircraft so not bound by flight and duty time as it is classed as private work. Mustering and general airwork, good fun but the season only last for 5 to 6 months. Would not suggest doing that many hours you very quickly understand why the limits are in place for a commercial operation.
Just am unsure what I am going to do once the season ends besides finish my study.

Thats unreal, congrats on that .
Just a quick question but - what about your flight time though? After you finish I presume you'd be next to unemployable, based on 200 hours a month (so 1200 hours over 6 months), you'd be over your flight time for the next 8 months for regular commercial work or 6 months for ag ops?

Thanks wheatbix, I agree I was one extremely lucky critter, especialy as I scored the job will I was still overseas with the green machine. And yes the next 8 months waiting for my flight and duty to reset is a point for serious thought, but my hunch is I will get shot on this site if I complained about it.
But two OP tours and this six months in the last 15 months the thought of stopping and studying is not such a crazy idea.
Or overseas if duty time is not a problem there??

Interesting stats
See if I have this right, (All as at 15th June figures).
Assuming that pilots that fly IFR have more than 2500 hours, then the largest group is
pilots less than 250 hours (whether or not they have a job) at 39%
then pilots with more than 2500 (&IFR) at 32%
and pilots between 250 to 2500 make up the remander...(29%)
That means the largest cross section looking here is low hour pilots.
It also means that the busiest part of the industry is schools, that's where low hour pilots come from.
It's interesting that instructors would commence in the next hour bracket (250 - 1000),
but that is the smallest at only 8% (where only 1/2 of the pilots enjoy their job).
Beyond 1000 hours the job satisfaction seems to increase (2/3 enjoy their job) and
the 2500 hours is the happiest group (4/5 enjoy their job).
Of course instructors have anything from 400+ hours and joy flight pilots continue beyond 1000 hours, but I can't break down the figures any better than what we have here. Yes I know stats can be made to say anything and remember that only 125 people out of 438 users have posted, that's 28%. So we are making an analysis of less then 1/3 of users and however many helicopter licence holders in Oz.
Don't get me started on users that have more than one user name...

Re: Interesting stats
My instructor has over 13000 hrs, so I don't think you can roll them all into 250 1000 hrs.I do agree the figures are interesting, as there are so many student / low hour pilots on here. Personally I am here to gain knowledge.
Thankes for the reply/edit CYHeli
