Aircraft Shipping from Aussie to NZ

Postby heli_79 » Wed Jun 2 2010, 09:29

Any advice for trying to get a helicopter to NZ by way of container? Looking at SYD - AKL.

Have googled a few companies on both sides of the ditch and emailed some to get quotes, info etc etc

Have a friend who brought one in from Canada to NZ and was hassle free, cost effective and didn't take long time wise.

thanks in advance,

Hey
Several ways to do it. In a container, Deck cargo ( fly on fly off ), Or if your balls are big enough fly it accross the ditch via lord howl and norfolk. I have done that myself in single engined fixed wing and no big deal really. My brother works in nz customs, and prior to that was in shipping industry.
Drop me a PM and can put you in touch.

You're going to have to ship some of your pilots back to fly it too. :D

Heliwhore - Thanks, probably fit the Helo in a 40ft container and ship across. My balls are frozen so not too keen to fly across that much water!
PM on it's way

Helicopspeeder - I left myself open for that one!

Thanks to all the PM's about import/export companies, will follow up over the next few days.

cheers

My advice, stay away from Famous Pacific Shipping (AKA Famous Logistics). They smashed my gear up and "lost" a 1200cc motorbike and charged like wounded bulls for the experience. Actually the NZ end were great, the BN end are dogs. )c/

Suggest you try Panalpina - they are in all the main centres and do the all he paperwork, customs etc- I have used them may times in the past internationally and they always provide top service. They are a bit pricet though but I go with the fact that I have never had a problem ever.

Talk to North Harbour Customs which is a shipping company in Auckland. They do all the shipping in and out of country for Eurocopter NZ so they should be able to help you with everything.

i know you asked about containers, but you could try a RORO. just land the machine at the port one end, roll it ontot he ship, either ground wheels, with a tow bar or something, or even a trailor, tie it down, then roll it off the other end. get customs to check it then fly away.
