Good result. I'm glad the exhaust didn't ignite the bush, it would have been very hard to escape through that.

Before all the experts advise us on what has happened.
Well done to the pilot, as all pax are alive and ok. One week out from the Fat Mans arrival, It's great to hear Good news, for a bad situation.
Well Done.

Re: Emergency landing in Royal National Park
Ch 7 (of course) reporting "helicopter crash !".
Pilot was on the news, seemed very calm, well spoken and said he had flown for years without any trouble, and thanked his training for being able to land after (Ch7) "power failure".
For Sydney pilots you would recognise where he landed was at the southern end of Victor One South, meaning that if what has been reported as engine failure actually happened at quite a good time, compared to 5 minutes south or north of there...which is all over water...and some big cliffs.
Like everyone, I am pleased no one was hurt and that the pilot and his family can enjoy Christmas.
Cheers to him.

"oneliner" , it does not matter if that lift job was average in your mind. It's not a computer game to just move an item around freely like that.
The pilot did not drop it nor damage it ! It was a controlled lift without error , regardless of the timing.
I know the pilot & he is not average. He achieved the task.
Please list your achievements in "long lining."

It wasn't average, it was definitely below average.
If you think the slinging of the 44 was average or above, then best you stick to something else.
Not all the blame can be put on the pilot, as the Ground Crew didn't help much, but still not good.

The guy who assigned the pilot to the task needs to have a good hard look at himself.

Re: Emergency landing in Royal National Park
I only got half way through that video & had to turn it off I was so pissed off with that ground crew member on the back of the truck. experience & training of the pilot are irrelevant if you've got a drongo on the ground who persists in standing under the load. I'm sure the pilot was going off his nut telling him to get clear, increasing the pilots workload & stress. Time to put it on the ground beside the truck, land, slap the ground crew ( I meant to say debrief in further detail highlighting the danger they were putting the self in) & then try again with more tag lines.
Armchair critic time - anyone dealing with sling ops on the ground needs to be trained, if this person was trained then I'd suggest a review of that training! A person under a suspended load on a mine site or oil / gas operations is a sackable offence, & I'd run for cover if worksafe get hold of that video. You can never have too many tag lines, but you can always have too many people.
