Why?
If they are VH registered, then you'll need a CASA qual.
I wish I had a catchy saying like everyone else...

I came across this photo on a fire fighting group a few days ago. Someone developing belly tanks for Blackhawks.

Hiw do you figure? In the US almost all the UH60 and chinook fire pilots are civilians with longline and firefighting experience

John McDermott told me years ago that an FAA licence wasn't required to fly an N registered machine in Oz.

True story. You just need an Aussie rating. You only need an FAA if you plan to fly N reg outside of Australia.

Coming from the Black Hawk tribe, I think its more than a rumor. And with that many frames it will be VH operation with AUS pilots and engineers. Plenty of ex US Mil Black Hawks on offer and given AUS ADF is one of the biggest Black Hawk operators outside USA and one of the first to buy Black Hawk, there will be plenty of ex ADF Black Hawk experience in AUS to get a fleet of 20 up and running.

At least if they're through an Australian entity, the money will stay in Australia.
I wonder what they will do with them in the off season though.

What's the realistic specs on what these things can achieve? Would be cool to see them around. Would they take on a 214?

That's a big investment in to a part of the industry that has been pretty underwhelming the last few years. Always due for a big one I guess...

A Black Hawk with Delta engines, at 1900 plus shp each and a cargo hook at 9000 lbs, upgraded main transmission, can pick up a BEL214 and take it to the job. Does that put it into perspective

Doesn't look like the tank will have much head pressure looking at that photo. The LA county Blackhawks had extended oleos put on their machines so they could fit a tank with greater depth to give greater head pressure and punch power.
