Don't fly this line of the industry or the machines associated.
Doesn't the four axis auto pilot take a fair bit of the work load.......for the pilot? How much do the systems aid and to what extent do they start to not?
That weather looked pretty atrocious so are the systems close to...computer says noooo

Depends a lot on what is available on the aircraft and what you can use. When I was on the 225 we weren't able to use the radalt hold unless the aircraft was fitted with two separate radalt systems so inspite of the great tech available it wasn't available to be used. However, I expect a full SAR equipped aircraft would have all the bells and whistles available. Radalt hold combined with velocity hold will maintain a very accurate position over a stable surface, though the ocean, in this case, the surface is not stable. Velocity hold combined with alt hold would be better utilised in this scenario. I would say it's combination of good equipment and good pilotage and good CRM, would've been a very interesting experience which I would loved to have challenged myself with but also glad I didn't have too.

You would be pissed if your winch recency was fast approaching and you missed that job due normal rostering.....

If that unfolded and you were on RDO’s, I’d suspect you would have received a very stressed call from the boss.. “maaaaaate, I know it’s your days off but something’s come up”
