Travel Insurance that covers Private Flying in the US?

Postby Egg Beater » Thu Jun 26 2014, 23:07

Hi All,

I have been unable to find a travel insurance provider that will cover an accident while flying in an aircraft as a pilot. Every policy I can find excludes incidents unless you are traveling as a passenger on a licensed carrier.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Check out QBE Travel Insurance. I just had a quick look through their Product Disclosure Statement and could not see any direct exclusion that would apply. There was an exclusion relating to liabilities that may apply as a result of you being in charge of an aircraft but this may relate to third party personal and property damage. Hopefully the folks that employ you would have cover for that.

If it were me, I would definitely email them and get it in writing that they would cover you for personal injury while in charge of an aircraft...

Let me know how you get on.

I have used Traffords in UK. Not sure if the policies can be done for non-UK residents. It's specialised aviation and marine insurance broker.

Sadly, due to the number of 'notable' heli crashes past 2-3 years globally, the premiums are higher. It is, complete package, travel/airline/personal stuff/liability/personal injury.

It's be good to know some pointers specifically Aus resident wise, too.

Cover more has a policy that covers me whilst skydiving as a sport jumper. It's already part of the policy at no extra cost so they might have something suitable?

Egg Beater,

Have you looked at insurance purchased here in the USA? There are hundreds of suppliers here. If you are looking for something, why don't you look into just getting a temp policy for the time you are in country?
