Seismic operations.
Here's a few from the last week flying in support of a seismic operation.
And an arty one from last night showing an hour of star rotation. (And yes, I know it's actually the earth that's rotating Pohm1!)

Awesome. Love that star trail shot. Did you have an ND filter on for that, or use stacked consecutive images?

Re: General pics...
No filters mate, 23 x 3min images shot at f5.6 and ISO400 that I blended together in Photoshop. Could have played around with the white balance and given the stars some colour but after 8.8hrs with the longline on I was ready for bed!
You're right helothere, the slower you can get the shutter speed the better.

Re: General pics...
to me the excellent star shot creates a sense of very close security, usually in a very clear wide open night one can feel as if to be on the edge of a precipice.

Great photos, the activity adds an interesting dimension. Are these taken with a helmet cam?

I suppose the greatest risk with that helipad would be tripping over the edge when you step out of the cabin.
Once the seismic is done do you do a fly-over to collect the data by radio transmission or is it collected another way? We use this method in Georgia, due to the mountainous terrain it allows us to follow an optimal route. Radio transmitter every 100m.

Re: Seismic operations.
As far as I know the data is collected by a recorder truck stationed within a few kilometres of the area they are working in. We do fly the line prior to the explosive charges being detonated (To produce the seismic event) to ensure the geophones are operating and sending their signals to the recorder truck.

Does that mean you don't have to land at all or only occasionally if one is not working?

Re: Seismic operations.
There's nowhere to land out there mate so they cut a few pads into the trees so we could drop troubleshooters in if needed. The ground crews walked hundreds of kilometers over the course of the project!
