What about if you land, and then Air Transit?

I agree with you, it is a very clunky piece of legislation.

What the frig does aerial application mean? I came across this reference in casr 137 in relation to an AOC application

Aerial Application Operations
Aerial Application Operation (or application operation) means:

a flight that is carried out by an aeroplane to apply application material; and
a flight by an aeroplane that is for, or partly for, 1 or more of the following:
inspection of a work area;
pilot training or checking relating to a flight mentioned in paragraph (a);
training of a crew member other than the pilot;
travel from a landing area to a work area and back;
the carriage of a passenger specified in regulation 137.135 for a purpose set out in that regulation; and
preparation for any activities mentioned in paragraphs (a) and (b).

I see that hovering around the pad seems to qualify as long as you don't climb out

reading that definition of aerial application, i'm assuming that they are talking about Ag ops???

but please, seriously
a flight that is carried out by an aeroplane to apply application material Oc:=

what a joke. i thought that the NZ rules were stupid, but looks like you guys can beat us at that as well.

the good thing for all the helicopter pilots is that reading that rule, i would then determine that Helicopter Ag ops are counted as low level, as you dont fly an aeroplane while doing helicopter ops. if it said aircraft, then it includes you guys, but an aeroplane doesnt.

Aerial Application in Australia covers

Seeding
Pest (eg Mosquito) Eradication
Chemical/Fertiliser Spreading

Then you have the DROPPING section which covers

Seeds/Fertiliser for forestry purposes
oil/chemical dispersants

Helicopters at present do not come under Pt 137 for aerial application , but this is supposed to change in the next few years and then all Spraying for Mozzies will become and aerial application operation that will require an ag rating, At present if they are being sprayed for agriculture purposes you require and ag rating but if you are spraying for Humans purposes you do not require an ag rating as it is not and agricultural or application operation. Work that one out.
