Wind Map.

Postby Rattlegun » Wed Oct 10 2012, 08:38

I thought this wind map of the US was pretty cool and a great way to visualise (surface) wind. It would be especially handy if you could overlay other charts (synoptic, etc). Who do we see about setting one up for Australia?

These people do a very good weather app for the iPhone and Mac which shows the current weather patterns over the whole world. Pretty cool but perhaps a bit expensive for some people.
Anyway they might be able to carry on the good work if you email them and suggest it as it could be and added functionality to there current set up. :D

They finally did it. Surface (1000hPa) wind map of the world, updated every 3 hours: earth.nullschool.net

Not all that useful, but interesting nonetheless.

Agreed. It's mesmerizing and yet informative, a bit like a smart lava lamp!

Genius.

Some very smart computer chaps. Collect the information (probably from various sources), combine it, write some code to make it look pretty and...superb ! Note that the local version, without so much detail, is on BOM...very handy if you are flying Hobart to Sydney. Do you want a Southerly or a Nor-easter ? 6 hours or 9 ?

Well done.

Hi Arrrj

That BOM site is really good, has loads of info on it. So much info that i can't find the page you are talking about. Would you be so kind as to provide a link.

Thanks :D

and a Merry Christmas to Bladeslappers everywhere....

Hello Mr Bird,

Yes, it is REALLY hard to find...however I am here to assist (if nothing else !).

http://www.bom.gov.au/charts_data/IDY20 ... 1387497600

http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/charts/ ... fresh+View

Try both of those.

All the best,
Arrrj

PS _ you need to press "play" to make it work.

There's also an 'experimental' page in the Bom called meteye. Very cool and useful. Qld has no data unfortunately.
