Mt Strong on a better day... about 11,700ft
Lot of aluminium lying around on the summit from over the years...
The trap is the DA. You see trees and grass, and forget how high you really are... read the Performance Graphs in the FM...
Notice the Owen Stanleys in the background... which are higher.

The introduction of plastic is one of the biggest polluters in PNG and is very evident around any town unlike the villages that are tidy and have little or no sign of western polluters.

Not so idyllic when you get to towns in PNG and yet every village I've flown over are tidy and no sign of rubbish

Buslimin near the Indo Boarder. To get in is via a 9700ft saddle then a very steep decent to the village which is at 4000ft and in the headwaters of one of many rivers that make up the Sepik river

Lake ?? at over 9000 ft, requires a good day to get in and out, first time I've seen it in two years of flying in the area. The country behind rises to 14000ft.

Ooch!! Not the only long term well established company that has copped a few NCN's of late.
The way PNG works, the CASA auditor will likely be unemployed in the near future

Slight drift and distraction from the fantastic photos, best set of photos on BS.... However I doubt the Auditor will end up unemployed, my guess is a change of direction in his employment, something like working from home or his new Appartment in Brisbane as a consultant to a PNG or Singapore registered aviation company.

Was told they are on 3mth extensions to pick up their safety. How the hell are they allowed to operate a CJ 3 now ? It only does 180 knots more than the kingair ?? Scary stuff

Hi Slappers,

can any one give a run down of general living and security conditions in Lae?
Mainly interested in if it is suitable for a young family or not.

Thanks in advance.

Spin Lae/Nadzab is certainly not the place I would take my young family.

Try for the outer islands the religion and drugs are not such a conflict.

Definitly not a place to take your family, don't listen to whatever spin your potential employer is telling you otherwise.

Very definitely NOT a good place to take your family. Got a pilot working at Tabubil that recently worked in Lae, and said they where often stone on the way out to Nabzab and had one car jacking attempt in the two years he worked there. He said they would drive straight at the stoners and did hit the odd one or two that where a bit slow to get out of the way.

Lae?
Put it this way - there has recently been an S76 introduced to fly Nadazb airline passengers between the old airport in Lae town to Nadzab. Arguably the most dangerous stretch of road in PNG.

I thought TropicAir was owned by RH (Rimbuan Hijau) - the Malay/Indo timber co. & MayBank etc.

Your dead right mate, Tropicscare is owned by palm oil farmers who are raping the land. In Pom they are run by a guy called Tim who is a misfit from the real world.
