Opportunities for Skilled RPAS Pilots

Postby Gonsky » Thu Sep 9 2021, 08:53

Australian delivery company Wing has some exciting opportunities for skilled RPAS pilots to join their newly built Canberra operations center.

The positions are full time (38 hours per week), based on a 12-month contract.

To be suitable for these positions you will require:
• A CASA issued Remotes Pilots Licence (ReOL)
• A CASA issued Flight Radio Operators Licence or Flight Radio Endorsement
• A CASA issued pass in the Instrument Rating Exam (IREX) or a CASA recognised instrument rating.
Whilst not essential, it would also be beneficial to have:
• A powered lift endorsement issued via a CASA RePL
• Experience in a complex unmanned aviation environment
• Experience in conventionally piloted aircraft at commercial or air transport level
Wing operates 7 days a weeks, with pilots operating a 4 or 5 day roster, therefore some weekend work will be required.
Interested in Applying?
All interested applicants need to send their resume and a short covering letter expressing why you would like to join Wing to Chief Pilot Asia Pacific, Simon Denby at sdenby@wing.com

Worth noting a few things:

1. Zero ‘flying’ involved. You’re a tick in the box for CASA so that Wing can say there’s a pilot at the helm with a pass in the IREX. The only things you can do as PIC are activate the drones, deactivate them, and tell them to either RTB or land in place in the event of an emergency. Everything else happens without you.

2. You won’t be a Wing or Google employee. You’ll be engaged through a third-party labour hire outfit and cannot put Wing or Google on your CV.

3. You’ll be on the books as PIC for dozens of drones in the air at any one point in time that you have very little control over for a little above minimum wage.

If that all blows your hair back, rock on 8) .

What’s more interesting is that someone that’s supposedly full time CaSA employee, is the point of contact for hiring for this position at wing?
