Outside of the city... tracking?? what tracking?. Air services is busy decommissioning NDB's and VORs around the country to save money... If they upgraded the the sites with some ADS-B infrastructure that could broadcast weather and traffic (like in the states) it would actually be a good practical step that would improve safety in GA!

For some reason Australia has adopted the cheapest (and incidentally s#!t) ADS-B standard.... you know not that ADS-B could be useful and all for unmamanned aircraft in the future (watch this space).

Wow. So the morons at caa would like everybody with a drone to give them $20 for an on-line course and a licence which I think lasts a year.

I’m not defending CASA here, but did you guys fill in the opinion poll about this topic CASA sent out a couple months ago?

Drones are not going away. I reckon we’d be somewhat better off if the “flyers” know to stay below 400 foot. That online education should be mandatory for ALL drone flyers. It can only help.

I fly R/C helis and multi rotors (drones) at various R/C clubs in Australia and have my MAAA license and insurance to do so. This also covers flying on private land with the owners permission.

The idea of having to pay $20 a year to continue doing what I do is a load of crap and isn't going to fix anything. I feel this is just a token gesture by CASA to be able to say we have done something while also making some cash out of it. In the 'consultation' CASA did I raised the point of MAAA registered pilots shouldn't have to incur extra fees but I am yet to see any mention of an exemption.

Mandatory drone safety course/video is a good start.
