Another gentle reminder that Rotortech 2018 is fast approaching and the registration process is now available for all attendees and exhibitors.
The dedicated Rotortech 2018 website has all the details regarding registration, accommodation etc as well as an updated speaker program.
Our convention is also an excellent opportunity to introduce the AHIA to prospective members.
The AHIA will have a booth and members/prospective members are very welcome to drop by to discuss the many challenges facing our industry. All the AHIA board members will be attending the convention and will be available for discussions.
The AHIA is your industry association and only exists to serve its members. More members means more clout in the corridors that matter so don't be shy about promoting your association to others.

ROTORTECH 2018 - FREE REGISTRATION
RotorTech 2018 Conference & Exhibition
Visitors to RotorTech 2018, Australia’s own helicopter industry exhibition and conference set for May 24 to 26 on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, will now attend the event’s industry and technical conferences at no charge thanks to increased levels of exhibitor and sponsorship support for the event.
The three-day RotorTech conference and exhibition will provide a vital interface between industry, regulators and government, including operations and safety presentations, manufacturers’ technical workshops, a gala industry awards dinner and an industry exhibition showcasing the products and services of more than 70 helicopter-related companies.
It is presented by Industry Defence and Security Australia Limited (IDSAL), an Australian not-for-profit Foundation dedicated to providing events to stimulate Australian industry development, in collaboration with the Australian Helicopter Industry Association (AHIA).
Industry Defence and Security Australia Limited and its corporate affiliate, Aerospace Australia Limited, are not-for- profit subsidiaries of Aerospace Maritime Defence and Security Foundation of Australia Limited. Together, they stage Australia’s premier aviation, defence, security and aerospace exhibitions and conferences, including the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (Avalon Airshow), the Pacific International Maritime Exposition, the Land
Forces International Land Defence Exposition and the CivSec International Civil Security Congress and Expo As a not-for-profit organisation, the goal of Aerospace Maritime Defence and Security Foundation of Australia Limited is to foster high-standard industry showcases and forums that are staged, wherever possible, at no cost to delegates, an ambition that is now achievable for the RotorTech 2018 Exhibition and Conference thanks to the strong support received from RotorTech’s sponsors and exhibitors.
“The increased level of sponsor and exhibitor support for RotorTech 2018 both underlines the event’s importance to the industry and enables the best possible conference and exhibition to be presented at no charge to delegates,” said the Foundation’s CEO Ian Honnery. “RotorTech 2018 provides a unique platform for communication between industry, manufacturers, regulators and government, contributing to safer helicopter operations through the exchange of topical information
and ideas. We are proud to bring RotorTech to life in collaboration with the AHIA.”
“RotorTech has come a long way since it started four years ago. Now, with the support of the Aerospace Maritime Defence and Security Foundation of Australia Limited, RotorTech 2018 will, under IDSAL’s management, be nearly double the size it was in 2016 at the last event.” said Australian Helicopter Industry Association President Peter Crook. “RotorTech this year will provide a great line-up of topical and highly relevant speakers as part of a world- class event that is rapidly
becoming the major promotional platform for the Australian helicopter industry.”
Registration is still required, however it’s Free to Attend Check out the full 3 day Conference and Manufacturers Workshops

The Importance of the Helicopter Industry at Regional and Metropolitan Airports-Support and Success!
Mr Peter Pallot, General Manager - Sunshine Coast Airport
It will be interesting to hear Peter talk about how he lost the biggest helicopter training operator, Beckers, out of his airport, into the arms of Whyalla.

Good point Eric. I wonder if the AHIA should show solidarity for Beckers and move Rotortech to another area in the future? The local airport/council aren't worthy of receiving the $$$ from the organisers/participants attending this show after treating one of our own poorly.

One may refer to that as a paradox of sorts

Re: ROTORTECH 2018
The rumor.
This is a rumor network, right?
The rumor is: that worse than “lose” one of the biggest Helicopter training organizations around, the airport authority refused to renew their lease. (Perhaps the lease terms were unacceptable, to avoid the word “refuse”)
It would seem on the face of it that the Sunshine Coast Airport Regime has zero interest in any Aviation activities beyond RPT. Perhaps with little understanding of operational requirements (according to an ex ATC person recently interviewed on the ABC)
Apparently the YBSC North/South runway (18/36) closure is planned, with some vague plan that any aircraft that can’t operate with a strong cross wind component can just go “somewhere” else. Maybe Caloundra. Where hangars and even outside parking spots are unavailable and long planned/promised new hangar land area, which relies on a road and infrastructure extensions are continually treated with the lowest priority.
Between the lack of “authorities” interest/investment/planning/certainty, and crippling “safety” “initiatives” GA is on it’s death bed.
It makes me sad.

Exactly Mr Pig
GA has no real place. Look at the pressure being put on class d.....all that prime real estate.
I know the airport I work out of the lease is astronomical.
Its all about RPT.
