Ram mounts used?

Postby Hueyman » Sat Feb 25 2017, 08:05

Which size is predominantly used in air craft for a tablet. Whilst the recommendations for weight and size are suggested but from what I've seen only tablesa have been used but a various amount odd sized ball joints are in the choppers I've seen.

Hi Huey,
I've been using a RAM Mount sized for my iPad mini (including with the cover left on) with great success.
I prefer to use the clamp (has 2 finger tight wind up screws) as opposed to the suction cup.
The suction cup in my mind has 2 disadvantages.
1) Assuming you have it mounted on the side of the pilot's screen, you really need to swap hands to operate the touch screen.
2) I have heard that the suction cup - apart from leaving marks on the screen - can distort the screen in high temps if left on.
PM me if you want a photo.
I've been clamping it to the left side of the 407 console with no issues. Doesn't impede any lights/switches etc, plus I can operate the screen with my left hand.
Cheers

I use the x frame to hold my mini and use a ram ball attached to a bolt on the dash, suction cups are a bad idea. They can drop off causing a mid flight issue and it's true they can damage the Perspex in warmer weather. All operators should install secured ram balls to there machines they have many uses. As for size I think the "C" is most common

RotorTq the clamp you use is it like a claw or is it the window mount ram sells.

Hey CH,
This is the one I've been using:

But to tell the truth, now that you've made this "tough claw" aware to me, I reckon that would be a better option. Looks more robust and more user friendly.
I don't believe this was an option when I initially bought into the RAM Mount idea, so they're obviously not afraid to innovate.
Great product.
Ok, off to order one now! :D
Cheers
