Stumbled across this by accident, great to see they’re expanding around the country.

Well done.

What constitutes being the largest civilian flight training company and how is it recorded?

It's measured and recorded by the amount of jabber on the CTAF. :)

Yeah nice, there wouldn’t be many complaints about helicopter noise over there!
Does this mean there will be a lot of vacant real estate at Marcoola?

Cheap to live there for new instructors

Alas, not an expansion but a move.

Good luck to those instructors / engineers and staff taking the jump across to SA, I guess redundancy may help with the others. Disappointed to hear the lack of support from Queensland Gov and the airport...the NIMBYs will be happy!

Cheers SP.

It will be a big decision for the junior instructors - leave the Sunny Coast, and pay for their own move to Whyalla to an unfamiliar community in order to keep the job; or quit to stay in their own area, but be faced with the Training Obligation repayment.

At least weekends at Maroochydore will be a little more peaceful without the buzzing overhead.

It will be a bigger decision for the staff there that have family based in the Sunny coast. Huge decision to uproot your children from their school and the wives / girlfriends / husbands / boyfriends etc to leave their jobs and their friends to go to SA. Any training obligation costs will be small fry compared to moving. It will be just as hard a choice for the established experienced people there as well.
I'm sure many of these discussions have taken place already, along with a workable timeframe. We shall see in due course.

Hey Eric, I don't usually comment on these threads but it's been made clear to me that the staff relocation is paid for by the operator

All the best,

Niko, that's good news for the staff. A not inconsiderable expense.

Paying moving expense is probably a very economical decision for a great employee who knows the company and wants to remain a part of it vs trying to hire and train new blood all while dealing with the move.

Sound decisions by mgmt I think.
