Helipad for 2 night parking near sovereign islands

Postby arrrj » Thu Jan 30 2020, 04:10

G'day Slaps,

Does anyone have a pad they can let me use for a couple of nights in Feb near Sovereign Islands (Gold Coast) ?

I know that there are a few private ones in the area.

I can swap nights at mine in Sydney...about 10 minutes from the city centre !

Cheers,
Arrrj

Hi ET,

Yes, I did think of that, but it's kms away (you have to go out past the "worlds" in a car), and even a transfer via water cannot be done because the water outside MD's place is very shallow.

Sanctuary Cove Marina was always a go, but they have just shut that pad.

The world is always making it "easy" for us that operate helicopters !

Cheers,

Unfortunately the Nimbys and the greenies are making their presence felt in the Goldie. Have you talked to Surf they may have space on their tarmac? I'm not hugely familiar the GC perhaps another local can speak up

What about the private airstrip at Mason field ? I think it’s changed names these days ?.
Been awhile since I’ve flown up that way.

Thanks guys.

Yes, Mason field is the go Twisty, it's called Southport now. However it is a private airport, you can't just blow in there.

Around 13 years ago I asked to use Mason Field, they said that because it is a private field, I would have to join their club and pay the entry fee (considerable) and it would take time to be approved. So I used the Heli Tours pad for the pickup and drop-offs, and then parked at Cooly.

Ye ol Capt Hollywood is a member at the $20k (I believe) Southport. He might be able to fly you in Arrrj :)
