S92s on the road?

Postby Heli » Thu May 23 2019, 08:02

4:30 this afternoon, two low loaders went through Roma with shrink wrapped S92s travelling toward Brisvegas. Any back story, have I misidentified the helicopter type?

Bristow have just packed up their Broome operation which was S92 but there may also be shrink wrapped 225’s still in country.

Did it look Russian? If so it was a 225 :D

Just saw photos of them on a low loader in transit through outback QLD. Definitely S92...profile of a tank with a rotor system.

Many names come to mind ET, including the 'Slowkorsky 92'.

In fact, those low loader trucks carrying the airframes probably have a higher ground speed than what you'd achieve in-flight with a 92...

Ground speed abysmal: not far from where I passed them 16 hours ago!

Think I just figured out who Heli is! You came all the way to Roma mate and didn't even pop in and say hello!

Is there not some small amount of irony in the photo of the 'Toll' truck towing the 'Bristow' helicopter???

Heli - from previous experience on a road ferry of my beloved Defender a few years ago, if you call Captain H inbound to Roma he'll book you a motel, take you for dinner and drive you back to the motel. He's a good man that Captain H.

Hollywood, it was a 'flying' visit with a bunch of coppers: which didn't obviate them from the camera car as we were overtaking a road train, ably led by a marked QPol solo! Amazingly I got off as I was alongside the train and no picture taken: yes, we knew speeds and bikes within an hour and a short stop at the next Maccas  I ran home non-stop this morning, 5 hours plus the 5 minutes to get the photos 8) I didn't even think to call you: sorry.

Toll trucks did pique my sense of humour, too!

I'll let you off this time Heli! I heard the local constabulary had a camera car out and about again this morning!

More than that, the locals to the north west have been taken to task over their low contributions to the State coffers. Expect increased Highway Patrol, camera cars and less leniency until it goes away

I think you will find those 92s are CHC machines heading back overseas via Helitech.

Camera car is a reference to an unmarked car with a speed camera setup. Varies from State to State, some are completely unmarked, some have signage on the doors, some have cameras facing forwards, some out of the rear, some all round on the roof. Some States have them contracted to civilian companies, some are manned and owned by the Police.

Seasoned travellers learn to spot them according to the State 8)
