Re: Charges laid over fatal helicopter crash
So let me get this straight.....
A guy drinks some beers, hops in helicopter, flies it and subsequently crashes it.
Yet it's his bosses fault?!?!
There must be more to this story or the world has gone mad.

It always amuses me when the media ramble on about these things. They always need to make it sound dramatic. "They each face a maximum penalty of $600,000 if found guilty".
They won't. Maximums are very rarely applied.

Hand in Pants, I'm thinking, my god, that IS huge!!!!!!!!

I believe it’s the culture that these ceo,s let develop is why they are going after them.

Lets see if the DPP pursues industrial manslaughter seeing they're being prosecuted under the WHS Act.

“Workcover” in NZ, were allegedly prosecuting pilots that Medivaced casualties from White Island after the eruption - “unsafe work practice” I assume.
There were a few petitions calling on the charges to be dropped. I signed 2.

Without knowing the details, I would have thought these flights would have fallen under the "Mercy Flight" category???

The Charges aren’t related to the rescues. It’s all about H&S of the tourists and workers prior. Plenty of info on NZ news pages.
NZ don’t mess around. They’re ahead in AvSMS requirements linking to WHS law to its full extent. One example was when an
operator was prosecuted by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) after the death of his business partner. Charges weren’t dropped despite some around the relevance of WHS in an aviation setting . Sentenced to four months' community detention, 350 hours' community work and ordered to pay financial penalties totalling $120,000. News article on that one is here: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/pro ... SAHSPT2LU/
